Ministry of Mine & Petroleum:

The long-term goals of the ministry are efficient management of natural resources creating job opportunities development of national economy, and encouragement of private sector investments in minerals and hydrocarbons extraction to maximize the income and reinforce the national revenue.

Job Summary:

The expert is responsible to conduct the rock petrography, mineralogy and geochemical analysis for all the samples brought by AGS field geologists or other stockholders. He is responsible for interpreting the analysis provide a professional standard report acceptable for internal and external stockholders.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Collation and review of previous recent laboratory assessments
  2. The expert is responsible for prepare the concept for upgrading of laboratories, including required equipment, controlled environment.
  3. Develop additional protocols and templates for sample handling and data reporting, as required
  4. Controlling and registration of rock samples in the laboratory database.
  5. Cooperation with other directorate and department on identification of minerals and rocks samples.
  6. Able to rise wariness on lab safety and anti-contamination regulation.
  7. Control the maintenance and take care of lab equipment’s.
  8. Provide technical advice to solve the problem of laboratory directorate.
  9. The expert is responsible of all task that given from top management in accordance with the rules and regulations of the organization.
  10. The expert is responsible for all petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical related activities.
  11. Coordinate with procurement office in order to provide the consumable material and other laboratory necessities.
  12. The expert should provide training for the lab staff in all abovementioned tasks. 
  13. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plan and action plans for the abovementioned tasks.
  14. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.

 Recruitment Qualifications and Core Competencies:

A Master’s or PhD degree in geology or a related subject with 5 years’ work experience in mineral exploration and mapping or Geology Laboratory.

  • Supervision of Junior staff
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to create organizational work plans based on higher level goals
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated experience in the use of training and information dissemination to transfer concepts and skills in the public and private sectors
  • Self-motivating, reliable, consistent and mature approach to work
  • Able to work independently and in teams Self-motivated with a drive for results, improvement and innovation
  • Excellent knowledge of Dari/Pashto and English languages and must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Excellent computer and presentation skills, Geological software with MS. Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
