Job Requirements:
- A mud Engineer (correctly called a drilling fluids engineer, but most often referred to as the "mud man") works on an oil well or gas well drilling rig, and is responsible for ensuring the properties of the drilling fluid, also known as drilling mud, are within designed specifications.
Job Purpose:
- The main duty of a mud man is to create the various combinations of mud that will be used during the different stages of the drilling process. They also might have additional responsibilities, including recommending drill bits and assisting excavating technicians in the overall safety of the drilling process.
- When creating the drilling fluids, mud engineers often use predetermined geological data obtained by geologists and drilling engineers. They conduct standardized testing during the drilling process and use a variety of methods to change the mud's viscosity, including adjusting the mud's temperature, pH balance and chemical components.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for mixing, testing, and controlling drilling fluids during the drilling process.
- Control the technology to prepare the drilling mud
- Monitor the drilling fluid mud cleaning system’s operation
- Participate in the optimization of the flushing fluids, and cleaning equipment modes of operation
- Recommend optimal operating modes for cleaning fluid stages
- Ensure the biopolymer fluid parameters comply with work plans
- Recommend treatment of drilling fluid with reagents
- Recommend the replacement of drilling fluid to maintain optimal parameters and drilling fluid system properties
- Ensure compliance with labor discipline and technological and safety regulations
- Compile with the requirements for non-disclosure of confidential information
- Minimize waste associated with draining fluids
- Works with drilling engineers and technicians to ensure a cost-effective drilling process
- Measure the right amount of mud needed at all stages
- Assist technicians during the drilling process
- Provide input in the selection of drill bits Dismantles oilfield machinery.
- Ensure that work areas are clean and safe.
- Follow safety guidelines and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
