The 6th International Meeting of Mines Ministers between 26 countries’ Mines Ministers, Deputy Ministers of Mines and representatives of international organizations, was held via a video conference to discuss the harms of Covid-19 at the Extractive Industries Sector and to prevent from such disasters in the future.

Muhammad Atiq Zaki, Deputy Minister for Policy and Extractive Programs Facilitation of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said, among other sectors of Afghanistan, the Extractive Industries Sector has also been hit hard by Covid-19, and Extractive Programs of small-scales and large-scales contracts process have been hampered by the economic downturn. However recently, we have announced a number of projects to re-dynamic the sector, in order to create jobs opportunities for the countrymen.

Mohammad Atiq Zaki said, “Covid-19 has shown us a new way to ensure performance and communication. We are currently moving towards digital governance system and have adapted our organizational structure regarding the Ministry's objectives, mining roadmap and day-to-day needs.”

During the meeting, Extractive Sector Ministers, Deputies and Representatives of International Organizations from 26 countries also spoke and shared their programs and experiences for the revitalization of the Extractive Industries Sector.
