Objective:
A mapping and exploration Expert is required to advise and support the Afghanistan Geological Survey (AGS) in the development of the AGS’s competency in exploration and in the planning of a new geological mapping program.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Provide basic and advanced training in field mapping techniques.
- Revise protocols for accessing previous exploration data from the AGS databases in order to review previous work in the target area and avoid duplication of effort.
- Provide training in exploration planning and carrying out early-stage exploration activities, including soil sampling, stream-sediment sampling, pitting and trenching, and data recording
- Provide training in field data interpretation
- Recommend opportunities for leasing, acquisition and drilling to management, maturing prospects to drill-ready status incorporating the appropriate quality control
- Plan and priorities a program of field mapping for the preparation of field geological mapping.
- Plan collection and analysis of grab samples for petrographic and geochemical analysis to confirm interpretation of lithologies and mineral occurrences
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plan and action plans for the abovementioned tasks.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
Recruitment Qualifications and Core Competencies:
A Master’s degree in geology or a related subject. A minimum of 4 years of experience in mineral exploration and mapping
Needed skills:
- Able to work with Arc GIS, QGIS, Global Mapper or ENVI and other Mapping software's.
- Ability of training processes and techniques.
- Ability of training processes and techniques.
- Maintaining an established work schedule.
- Must have good organizational and planning skill.
- Planning, prioritizing, and problemsolving.
- Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
- Excellent knowledge of Dari/Pashto and English languages and must be able to communicate fluently in English.
- Excellent computer and presentation skills, with MS. Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
