About Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP)

It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum to ensure progress in research, exploration, development, and exploitation of both minerals and hydrocarbons. Objective:

A mapping and exploration Expert is required to advise and support the Afghanistan Geological Survey (AGS) in the development of the AGS’s competency in exploration and in the planning of a new geological mapping program.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Provide basic and advanced training in field mapping techniques.
  2. Revise protocols for accessing previous exploration data from the AGS databases in order to review previous work in the target area and avoid duplication of effort.
  3. Provide training in exploration planning and carrying out early-stage exploration activities, including soil sampling, stream-sediment sampling, pitting and trenching, and data recording
  4. Provide training in field data interpretation
  5. Recommend opportunities for leasing, acquisition and drilling to management, maturing prospects to drill-ready status incorporating the appropriate quality control
  6. Plan and priorities a program of field mapping for the preparation of field geological mapping.
  7. Plan collection and analysis of grab samples for petrographic and geochemical analysis to confirm interpretation of lithologies and mineral occurrences
  8. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plan and action plans for the abovementioned tasks.
  9. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.

 

Recruitment Qualifications and Core Competencies:

A Master’s degree in geology or a related subject. A minimum of 4 years of experience in mineral exploration and mapping

Needed skills:

  • Able to work with Arc GIS, QGIS, Global Mapper or ENVI and other Mapping software's. 
  • Ability of training processes and techniques.
  • Ability of training processes and techniques.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Must have good organizational and planning skill.
  • Planning, prioritizing, and problemsolving.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
  • Excellent knowledge of Dari/Pashto and English languages and must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Excellent computer and presentation skills, with MS. Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
