- Scope of Work
Cathodic protection controls the corrosion of metal surfaces in structures that are in contact with soil or water. These include buildings, pipelines and bridges. Cathodic protection technicians install, monitor, assess, maintain and repair cathodic protection systems. They also commission and decommission these systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare projects
- Provides technical support to managers.
- Designs complete cathodic protection systems in a variety of industry applications including water tanks, above ground and underground storage tanks, and pipelines. Applies new technologies to existing cathodic protection programs.
- Oversees and reviews complex cathodic protection testing using appropriate measurement techniques to monitor performance. Accurately interprets the data collected to ensure system performance.
- Oversees, conducts and documents interference tests where stray currents are suspected to determine if interference exists and identify the source of the interference.
- Performs corrosion analysis.
- Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Perform lock-out and tag-out procedures
- Run function tests
- Install, maintain and repair system components
- Install rectifiers and replace electrical components on rectifiers (if certified as a cathodic protection technician or electrician)
- Give feedback and support to cathodic protection design engineers
- Gather data and prepare records and reports
- Lead projects
- Prepare and submit project estimates and bids
- Help design and install cathodic protection systems
- Collect and manage field and system data (for use in the design of cathodic protection systems)
- Perform advanced field tests and ensure test results are accurate
- Check the commission and decommission of cathodic protection systems
- Prepare assignments and supervise crew
- Ensure work activities comply with health, safety and environment codes as well as regulations
Qualification and Experience:
- Minim Bachelor Degree in relevant field
- Electric Engineer or equivalent.
- Familiar with the pipeline standards API and ASME
- Familiar with pipeline cathodic protection codes, equipment and installation
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in cathodic protection of pipeline as API and ASME.
- Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Prepare plan correction reports.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Training ability of bending machine
Skills and Abilities:
- Good leadership, communication and inter-personal skills, with demonstrable ability
- to motivate others.
- Fluent in English.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office.
- Identify and define technical and administrative problems, identify and evaluate
- alternative solutions, and select and implement the best alternative
- Prepare plan correction reports
- Review proposed projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Knowledge of pipeline construction methods and technologies in API and ASME standards.
- Knowledge of construction methods and technologies, and ability to interpret technical drawings and contract.
