MoMP prefers open competition in granting mineral rights
Deputy Minister - Policy and Programs for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum Waliullah Zadran attended the annual Intergovernmental Forum (IGF) via video conference. In addition to Chile Minister of Mines, a British professor and IGF advisor also attended the meeting and discussed the process of granting mineral rights on the basis of open competition, keeping in consideration the principle of transparency.
Deputy Minister of Policy and Programs explained the recent progress made in the extractive industries of Afghanistan about granting mineral rights, in order to ensure transparency and attracting Companies with financial and technical capacities. He also discussed the benefits of granting mineral rights on the basis of open competition in compare to all other methods.
While talking about the government partnership in mining activities, Mr. Zadran said that, we are currently evaluating government’s role considering the principle of market competition. We will be able to identify government partnership in mining activities through this.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has the membership of IGF, and is receiving technical and policy cooperation.
